Well its almost the New Year, and my Mom is doing well. She is half way through her 7 weeks of radiation. The cancer is gone, the surgery went well in October, and her spirits for the most part are high. She does have moments are overwhelming, the 5 days a week for treatments are hard. She is a survivor.

I have always worked in the field of work where supporting a person through a personal crisis is practiced. When a personal crisis is turned on you I find some of the same tools I use professionally help, but what also is in play are the emotions. Professionally you keep the emotions in check, balance them so you can be effective and sincere in your job. I now find this task impossible when facing a personal crisis in my life. Finding that balance is very difficult, and somewhat heartbreaking. As I fumble to assist my mother through the process of dealing with cancer I feel conflicted because a part of my mind screams “find the facts, learn the steps to take and deal with it” and the heart part says “why is this happening, she lives a healthy life, she helps many people and is loved my so many”. Finding the balance is the key.
